Spring Break Lessons

Before school let out on break, Anastasia had been learning about the Civil War. So on our trip to Chattanooga last week, I wanted to teach her more about it. There are plenty of places in the Chattanooga area to visit in regards to Civil War history, but I settled on Missionary Ridge.
As we explored the ridge top, we talked about the battle that had been fought there in November of 1863. Anastasia examined the monument and the casualty lists.
As we wandered around we discussed how loud it would have been to be a soldier rushing up the ridge and hearing the cannons all firing at once.
They may not have grasped the historical significance of Missionary Ridge just yet, but it was a fun way to teach them about what happened there.
