It was a spectacular autumn day to say the least. When Nana got wind that we were heading to the park, she requested that we take her along for the ride.

We happily obliged!

We rode all the way around the 11-mile loop while stopping at the cabins and other historic structures along the way. And lest you think my children have taken leave of their senses, we of course stopped at the gift shop too.

After we did the loop we had a tasty picnic lunch. And since our wildlife spotting on the trip around the cove was less than exceptional, we decided to make another pass at it. We were not disappointed.

We had heard from someone that there was a bear in the vicinity of the Methodist Church. We all hopped out and followed a few people out into a field where we saw a large black bear up in a tree.

The bear was completely oblivious to all of us gathered on the ground and continued to eat and eat and eat. We were heading back to the car when we spotted a cub!

The girls were beside themselves with excitement. And the grown-up girls were pretty pumped too. It was the icing on the cake of an already perfect day in the mountains.
