Rainy Days

I had big, important plans for this weekend. Yard work was going to be done, 15-mile training runs were going to be completed and leaves were to be swept out of the driveway. Instead....our radar looked like this for the entire day yesterday.

So without outdoor pursuits limited, we turned our thoughts indoors. We had lunch with family and then the girls and I set out, umbrellas in hand, for some shopping. We found some great deals, spent the last of Ainsley's birthday gift cards and decided to take in a movie. Jamie stayed home with Allie since sitting in a dark room and being quite for 84 minutes isn't really her cup of tea. We saw Gnomeo and Juliet.

It is exactly what you think it is, yet another retelling of the tragedy we all know so well. But the humor and the animation were spot-on. The girls loved it and I thoroughly enjoyed all the Shakespearean references and subtleties that were thrown in there for the adult audience. Add in the music of Elton John and some great voice cameos (Dolly Parton anyone?) and you have the perfect way to spend a Saturday afternoon. Fortunately this re-telling didn't end tragically and everyone walked away with a smile on their face...especially me who got to spend several wonderful hours with her girls.
